About Us

South Fork of the American 2018

We Are:

One of the Oldest Crews Around: Founded in 1999, we are one of the oldest continually running Venture Crews in the country.

Up For A Challenge: We offer everyone who joins our crew the chance to have fun while learning skills and experiencing personal growth that will last a lifetime. Our objective is that all youth participating in our crew feel they have had a challenging, rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Youth-Led: Mentored by adult advisors, crew members choose and plan for all outings, service projects, social events, and Super Trip.

A BSA Quality Unit: Crew 27 has achieved the BSA Quality Unit status every year since it started.

We Do:

Outdoor Adventures: 12 months of the year, Crew 27 is doing some fun outdoor activity selected by the youth like hiking, climbing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, shooting, canoeing, or orienteering.

Social Events: In addition to outdoor outings, crew members can chose to plan and have social events. Our Halloween Party has been an annual favorite, but we have also had picnics, game nights, a trip to the Grand National Rodeo, and various tours of cultural or historic interest.

Community Service: Giving back to our community, sponsor, and scouting is an important part of our program. We have:

  • Rebuilt trails and done trail maintenance
  • Planted trees and other plants
  • Done beach cleanups
  • Removed invasive species
  • Collected food for local food banks during the holidays
  • Placed flags at Skylawn Memorial Park for Memorial Day
  • Caroled at a local nursing facility during the holidays
  • Set up the local Boy Scout council Christmas tree lot
  • Done routine maintenance for our sponsor, Hillsdale United Methodist
