On the weekend of November 16th and 17th, we joined our troop, troop 27, in Scouting for Food. In this program, we walk around the neighborhood asking residents if they have any non-perishable food items they want to donate to us, to be handed off to the Good Samaritan House. We started our canvassing around 8:45, and walked neighborhoods until about 12:30. By this point, we had filled a minivan full of donated food twice!

When we all got back to Marlin Park, we were treated to a nice lunch of hamburgers or hot dogs, followed by a Cub Scout recruiting event. For this portion of our day, the venture crew paired up with Cubs to get on a catamaran canoe, which is two canoes lashed together. The cubs got to paddle around and participate in a kind of treasure hunt on the water.

After this event, which all the Cub Scouts loved, the crew gathered up and piled in the vehicles for the drive to Mt. Madonna. When we got there, it was already dark, and we immediately started working on our dinner of beef bourguignon. This was followed by apple crumble for dessert, and a short campfire. The following morning, we got up late (7:45) and got to work on our breakfast: Mountain Man (a dutch oven recipe with egg, sausage, cheese, and hash browns). Next, we went on a short 3-mile loop hike, returned to camp, and made foil packets with salmon for lunch. Lastly, we packed up all our gear, cleaned up the campsite, and returned back to CCP.
