Knots

SIX KNOT RELAY

Six Scout team; judged on time taken to tie knots correctly. In turn, each Scout runs 30 feet, ties a knot, and returns to tag off the next Scout. The six knots are the reef, bowline, sheet bend, clove hitch, round turn and two half hitches, and sheep shank.

Knot Relay

Modern BSA knot relays typically use the standard Tenderfoot through First Class knots. They some times add the Larkshead. For older Scouts climbing knots like Prussik, the Figure Eight Family, and Fishermens Knots get added. The BSA standards are: Clove Hitch, Two Half Hitches, Square (Reef) Knot, Taut-line Hitch, Bowline, Timber Hitch, and Sheet Bend.

Blindfolded Knots

Each Scout is given three minutes to tie as many different knots as they can while not able to see either their hands or the rope. One point is scored for each unique knot correctly tied and named and the Patrol score is the average of the Scout scores.

Blind Man Knots

Each Scout is given 90 seconds to identify, by touch, as many knots as they can from the standard BSA knot set. One point is scored for each knot identified. The Patrol score is the average of the Scout scores.
